Genital warts are the second most common type of STI in the UK, and I am able to prescribe two topical treatments - Warticon and Aldara. Having a confidential online medical consultation alleviates the embarrassment of having to visit your GP, and a discreet prescription can be delivered to you the next day.
Aldara and Warticon each treat genital warts in different ways, and are suitable for specific types of outbreaks. The details below will help in choosing the treatment that best suits your needs.
Genital warts are bumpy, proliferative growths occurring in the anogenital area caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Although the physical appearance may be unpleasant, they are typically painless and do not present a significant health risk.
Most genital warts are caused by one of two types of HPV — types 6 and 11. Genital warts can be found in the mouth or genital area — the vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum, anus, penis, or scrotum.
These warts are passed from one person to another by skin-to-skin contact, usually during intercourse. Genital warts are very common.
They are transmitted through sexual contact and are most common in people under 25. Under 25's tend to experience the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections. After contracting HPV, it can take months or years to develop warts.
There are several medicines that can be applied directly to genital warts, depending on where they are located. Some genital warts treatments can cause discomfort. And some cannot be used during pregnancy.

Aldara.
Aldarda is licenced for genital and anal warts, and is applied twice a day for three consecutive days, followed by a four day break. This pattern can be repeated for up to four weeks. Most patients find that their warts disappear after a month.
Aldara is suitable for warts that are either soft and fleshy to the touch, and if your warts cover an area less than the size of a two pence piece in total.
Skin irritation, rash, soreness, ulceration around or on the areas where you apply the cream and rarely flu-like symptoms.
Genital warts are usually painless and do not pose a serious threat to health. However, they can appear unsightly and cause psychological distress.
Aldara works by stimulating the body's immune system to destroy the warts. Aldara present on skin may weaken latex condoms.

Warticon.
Warticon is licenced to treat genital warts, and is applied as a cream three times a week. Most patients find that their warts disappear after four months.
If you have six or more outbreaks per year then you will have fewer or even no outbreaks whilst taking suppression therapy.
Skin irritation, rash, soreness, ulceration around or on the areas where you apply the solution.
Genital warts are the result of a viral skin infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They are usually painless and do not pose a serious threat to health. However, they can appear unsightly and cause psychological distress. Warticon physically destroys warts by burning them off. Warticon present on skin will not weaken latex condoms. Warticon should not be used by women who are pregnant or breast feeding.
Please inform any recent sexual partners of your condition and advise them to get tested and treated. It is important to have yourself tested to ensure you are clear of the condition before resuming sexual relations.
