Victoza, (Liraglutide Injection x 2)
Victoza
Victoza prefilled pens are refrigerated products and should be refrigerated between 2-8 C (36-46 F) prior to first use. After the first use it can be stored at room temperature 15-30 C (59-86 F) or refrigerated at 2-8 C (36-46F)
What is Victoza (liraglutide)?
The pre-filled Victoza pen injector contains the active substance liraglutide, a drug that stimulates the production of insulin in the pancreas. Insulin lowers the glucose levels in the blood.
What is Victoza used for?
Victoza is prescribed for diabetes mellitus type 2. In this type of diabetes the liver and the muscles need more insulin than the pancreas produces. Victoza ensures that the pancreas produces more insulin. This prevents that the glucose levels in the blood rise too much. Doctors usually choose a treatment with Victoza if other glucose lowering drugs do not or do not work sufficiently.
How do I use Victoza?
Victoza is used as an injection under the skin. The best place is the front thighs, the stomach or upper arm.You don't have to take your meal times into account.
Store the Victoza pen in the refrigerator (not in or near the freezing compartment). After opening you can use the pen for 1 month
Attention: Victoza is not suitable for patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 1.
Dosage
The usual start dose for adults 18 years and over is 1 injection with a dose of 0.6 mg, for at least 1 week. The doctor decides if and when you need to increase the dose.
A Victoza pen contains 3 ml injection fluid at 6 mg liraglutide per ml. That is enough for 30 doses of 0.6 mg.
Have you forgotten a dose of Victoza? You can inject it 12 hours late at the most. After that time it's better to skip the forgotten dose and continue with the usual time schedule.
