What is Simvastatin?
PSimvastatin is a cholesterol lowering drug. The active substance pravastatin ensures that the liver produces less cholesterol. Due to the lower cholesterol levels in the blood, the risk of heart disease decreases.
What is it used for?
Simvastatin is used to treat a high cholesterol level in the blood. Patients who for some reason have an increased risk of developing heart disease are sometimes prescribed this preventive drug.
How do you use Simvastatin?
It is best to take Simvastatin night for the medication to work optimally.
A forgotten dose can still be taken up to 16 hours later. After that time it is better to skip the missed dose.
Dosage
Simvastatin is available in tablets of 10, 20 and 40 mg. Ask the doctor which strength you should use. The usual dose is one tablet per day, unless the doctor tells you otherwise. You can get a repeat prescription but you need to use the medicine safely for at least 3 months
Side effects
When using statins you may experience side effects. Muscle symptoms occur rarely (unexplained muscle pain, muscle cramps or joint pain). This may indicate a serious side effect. In this case, talk with the doctor.
Immediately stop using the medicine if you notice any side effect that may indicate a serious allergic reaction (swelling of the face and mouth, skin rash).In this case, immediately alert a doctor.

Alcohol and Simvastatin
Alcohol in combination with Simvastatin is a bad idea as may put too much pressure on your liver. Therefore, be careful with the use of alcoholic beverages.
Driving Ability
Simvastatin may cause dizziness in the beginning. When treatment is continued, this symptom usually disappears on its own.
