Perindopril Tablets

Perindopril

What is Perindopril?

Perindopril is a so-called ACE inhibitor, a drug that lowers blood pressure and improves the functioning of your heart.

What is Perindopril used for?

Perindopril is prescribed for high blood pressure, heart failure or after a heart attack.

How do you use Perindopril?

This medication should be taken daily (preferably in the morning), before a meal, at a fixed time. Swallow the tablet as a whole with some water.

Dosage

Perindopril is available in tablets of 2, 4 and 8 mg. Your doctor will know which strength is right for you. The usual dose for adults aged 18 and over is one tablet once a day, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

A missed dose can still be taken up to 16 hours later. If more time has passed, skip the missed dose.

Overdose can cause a very low blood pressure, heart problems or unconsciousness. Always warn a doctor in the event of an overdose.

Side effects

When using Perindopril you may experience the following side effects (see leaflet for a complete list):

  • dizziness (especially when standing up too quickly)

  • tickling cough

  • headache

Consult a doctor if the side effects become severe, or have symptoms that are not listed as side effects.

When should you not use Perindopril (contraindications)

Perindopril is not suitable for people who:

  • are allergic to the active ingredient of perindopril or any other ACE inhibitor, or to any of the excipients in this medicine

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding

If you have a (serious) condition, talk to the doctor before using Perindopril. See leaflet for a complete list of contraindications and warnings.

Pregnancy / breastfeeding

Perindopril may harm the health of (unborn) babies. Therefore this drug should not be used if you are pregnant or if you want to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about a safer alternative to this medicine.

Driving Ability

When using Perindopril you may experience dizziness or blurred vision in the beginning. Often this is temporarily. Once these symptoms are gone, you can drive again.

Alcohol

Alcohol in combination with Perindopril may cause dizziness or strengthen dizziness. Adjust your consumption of alcoholic beverages accordingly.
