Norethisterone Period Delay Tablets
Norethisterone
What is Norethisterone?
Norethisterone belongs to a group of medicines called progestogens, which are female sex hormones. Norethisterone tablets are used to treat a number of disorders of the menstrual cycle but can also be used in breast cancer and to postpone a period.
How does Norethisterone work to delay your period
Norethisterone tablets works by mimicking the effects of female sex hormones (progestogens) produced by the body. Progestogens maintain the lining of the uterus and when its levels fall, the lining sheds causing a period. By taking Norethisterone this lining is maintained until you stop taking the tablet, therefore postponing your period.
How to use Norethisterone
To postpone a period, the usual dose is: one tablet three times daily, starting three days before the expected period and continued until no further postponement is required. A normal period should occur 2-3 days after taking the last tablet.
Side-effects
Common side effects associated with Norethisterone are: menstrual disturbances, premenstrual-like syndrome (fluid retention, breast tenderness, bloating), weight changes, nausea, headaches, and dizziness.
