Elleste-Solo
Elleste Solo
What is Elleste-Solo?
Elleste-Solo is a Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) containing estradiol, a hormone similar to the female hormone oestrogen. It is used to treat symptoms of the menopause and conditions associated with it, such as osteoporosis.
How does Elleste-Solo work?
During the menopause oestrogen levels in women decline, which can cause symptoms including: hot flushes (of the face, neck and chest), night sweats and vaginal atrophy (dryness, burning, itching and painful intercourse). Elleste-Solo works by replacing the oestrogen and therefore reducing the symptoms associated with the menopause.
How to use Elleste-Solo?
Elleste-Solo is available in two strengths, estradiol 1mg and 2mg. The usual dose is: one tablet daily, starting on day 1 of onset of a period (or at any time if cycles have stopped or are infrequent). In women with a uterus, additional cyclical progesterone should be taken for 12-14 days of each cycle. The 1mg tablet is for use in menopausal symptoms, whereas the 2mg is used in menopausal symptoms not controlled by the lower strength and in osteoporosis prevention.
Your doctor will aim to give you the lowest dose for the shortest time appropriate to treat your symptoms. As this is a continuous treatment, you must not take a break between packs unless advised to do so by your doctor.
Side-effects
Common side effects associated with Elleste-Solo are: stomach cramps, headache, weight changes, breast tenderness/enlargement, mood changes and nausea. For a full list of side-effects and for any further information, please see the product information leaflet.
Note
The product literature advises caution with many health conditions, therefore please consult the patient information leaflet for detailed information regarding when HRT may be unsuitable for you. If you feel that your dose may be too high or low, please consult your doctor. Your HRT medication should be reviewed at least once a year to ensure you are receiving the appropriate therapeutic dose.
Effectiveness
HRT medicines effectively reduces the symptoms of menopause - hot flushes, vaginal dryness, night sweats and mood swings. They are also an option for osteoporosis prevention in postmenopausal women who are at high risk of fractures
