What is Doxycycline?
Doxycycline is a member of the tetracycline antibiotics group.Tetracycline antibiotics work against bacterial infections.

What does Doxycycline do?
Doxycycline inhibits the growth of many strains of bacteria. It inhibits the bacterial protein production. A bacteria that is unable to produce protein is no longer able to multiply and subsequently dies.
Doxycycline is usually only prescribed to adults and children older than 8 years of age, because particularly in younger children, it can harm bones and immature teeth.
Doctors prescribe it for bacterial infections, such as airway infections (i.e. pneumonia, acute bronchitis, inflammation of the middle ear, sinusitis and laryngitis), cystitis, skin infections (for example acne and rosacea), infections of the gastrointestinal tract, venereal diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis), Lyme disease and malaria.
