Important Product Information

The medicine

The Traveller's Diarrhoea Pack prescribed by Doctor Matt contains the following: Ciprofloxacin 500mg tablets x 2, an oral antibiotic to treat traveller's diarrhoea. Buccastem®3mg tablets x 10 to treat nausea. Loperamide capsules 2mg x 6 to treat loose bowels. Dioralyte® rehydration sachets x 6 to reduce dehydration.

How to take it

Ciprofloxacin - One tablet is taken initially then the second tablet twelve hours later.

Buccastem® - One tablet is taken twice a day.

Loperamide - Two capsules are taken initially then one capsule is taken after each loose stool.

Dioralyte® - One sachet is taken in water after each loose stool.

Effectiveness

There's an 80% chance that ciprofloxacin will treat your traveller's diarrhoea - as such, your symptoms should improve within two days. Buccastem® is generally effective at easing nausea and Loperamide is effective at treating loose bowels. Travel sickness tablets work by damping down the confusion in the brain that occurs when motion tells the brain one thing and vision tells it another. Anti-sickness tablets work best when taken before the nausea starts, although they can be taken after the onset, when they will still help to reduce nausea.

Side-effects

Ciprofloxacin's side-effects are uncommon but can include nausea, diarrhoea, headache, sore throat, stomach or back pain. Buccastem's side-effects are uncommon but can include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth. Loperamide side-effects are very rare but can include allergic reactions, a dry mouth and indigestion.

Other things you should know

Your body should naturally overcome diarrhoea, the diarrhoea treatment pack is used to accelerate the recovery process.
