Sometimes having your period during your exams, when you are on holiday or during a special event in your life can be inconvenient and stressful for women. If you would like to occasionally delay your period during a special time or for religious reasons, Doctor Matt can provide you with a prescription medication called Norethisterone.
Norethisterone 5mg should only be used to delay periods for a maximum of 10 days and needs to be started three days before your period is due. Therefore the maximum amount of days you can take Norethisterone for is 14 days.
Three days before your period is due, take one tablet three times a day. You should not take this medicine more than 14 days.
Taken correctly, Norethisterone will almost always delay your period. Once you stop taking it, your period will return in a couple of days.
Side-effects are uncommon, but you may experience nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue or headache. Rarely it can cause a worsening of some chronic diseases or interact with some medicines
If you are ordering this medicine for home delivery, please keep in mind that you need to begin the course three days before your period is due. You should not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or taking the contraceptive pill. Norethisterone is not a contraceptive and will not prevent pregnancy. You should continue to use contraceptive methods such as condoms whilst taking this medicine.
